We are located in the heart of British Columbia, in Vanderhoof. We are not a veterinary service but we have been involved in the breeding of horses for more than thirty years, starting with standard "live cover" techniques,  now moving on to using Artificial Insemination.  Our Services do not provide any diagnostic work on Reproductive Issues. These will be referred to Nechako Valley Animal Health Services ( Dr Cori Stephen)

At Nechako Equine Reproductive Services we offer:

Phantom training of stallions.
Stallion management for breeding purposes.
Collection and preparation of semen for on farm A.I. or transport.

STALLION MANAGEMENT

PHANTOM OR GROUND COLLECTION TRAINING

Phantom or ground collection training consists of teaching the stallion to mount a phantom mare and ejaculate into an artificial vagina  . This is carried out once on the first day, and then on two occasions one hour apart on the next day or the day after. The first semen sample is discarded, serving only to "clean" the stallion.  On the day when two samples are taken one hour apart, both samples are evaluated for sperm concentration levels, motility and morphology.  Once the stallion has been  trained to breed a phantom, the semen is evaluated and extended using several different extenders and concentrations. Samples are then packed  into an Equitainer and evaluated again at 12, 24, and 48hours.
